Corby based Vibra Technics are leading the field when it comes to design and manufacture of high performance vehicle engine mounts thanks to recent investment in new technology.

Vibra Technics provide performance drivers with race engineered engine and suspension mounts. In the early 1990s the company realised that many fast and expensive sports cars were being built with fairly crude engine mountings and that they had the skills to design and manufacture a rubber alternative which would give drivers of modified vehicles an alternative to factory standard mounts.

John Wright at Vibra Technics said: “The test machine we purchased through the NTI scheme has been invaluable to our business - both as a design and development tool and as a quality verification tool. We would not have gone for a machine of that type if the funding was not available."

“We have been the only manufacturer producing engine mounts until recently, and are the only firm in the area with this testing equipment. We have even had component manufacturers come to test their own prototypes. It has boosted our standing within the industry and made us much more effective.

“It is vital for small businesses to be able to invest in new technology to do the job.

“The testing kit has allowed us to be more accurate in specification and validate the quality of some of the products we buy in. It also allows us to explain to customers what we are making and graphically demonstrate how the parts differ from the original parts.”

James Powell said: “Vibra Technics competition mounts eliminate clearance problems with strut braces and exhaust systems, body panels etc. and improve handling whist still giving vibration isolation at high engine speeds. Factory mounts are designed to work with standard vehicle performance characteristics, but when performance modifications are carried out, mounts should be replaced with stiffer/optimised versions to handle the increased power and prevent engine and gearbox "pitch and roll" under the bonnet.

Their suspension bushes are design to reduce the suspension geometry changes resulting from acceleration, braking and cornering forces. They help to improve a vehicle’s stability and cornering "feel" without limiting normal suspension travel.

“The products are not just stiffened copies of original specification but indeed fully re-designed and re-engineered versions which are tested to meet customer criteria. Vibra Technics is one of many companies in our region which are using new technology to enable drivers to push the boundaries of engineering expertise.”
