Funding helps sports journalist keep his eye on the ball

18/08/2008

Funding for new technology has helped a Chesterfield based sports journalist and broadcaster to learn new skills and develop greater work opportunities.

Nick Johnson, a freelance journalist for The Sun, News of the World, Reuters and ITV.com, specialises in providing football news coverage and has recently worked with the likes of footballers Michael Owen and Ryan Giggs.

The grant awarded by East Midlands New Technology Initiative (NTI) Creative Industries Network has enabled Nick to purchase a TV broadcast DV Cam (digital video camera), tripod and microphone to expand the range of journalism and quality of work he can offer his clients.

Nick says: “The NTI grant has been invaluable. I could never have purchased the equipment by myself without considerable saving or expanded my range of work and skills so quickly. The camera has increased my opportunities for new work and the amount of flexibility I can provide for clients. I would definitely recommend that other freelance people like me or small companies contact organisations such as the NTI for assistance.”

Nick is also enrolling on a training course at Chesterfield College through the NTI, which will further his technical broadcasting skills.
