Nottingham Events Caterer Secures Major Supermarket Contract

18/08/2008

Leading Nottingham-based event catering business McArtney’s Catering has won a contract to supply desserts to one of the UK’s most successful supermarket retailers following a major investment in new technology.

The exclusive contract will see the family run business manufacture and supply roulade desserts to six superstores, which will stock its products from this summer under its Rosie & Nancy brand.

Established in 2003 by sisters Nancy and Rosie McArtney, award-winning McArtney’s Catering has gone from strength to strength. The company is one of the county’s top event catering companies and its team of five full time and 40 casual staff regularly caters for 150 people at events for famous brands and high profile organisations.

McArtney’s decision to get into manufacturing has been causing quite a stir. The company recently received a match funded grant of £10,000 from East Midlands New Technology Initiative (NTI) Food & Drink Network to purchase high tech ovens and a blast chiller to allow it to consistently produce high volumes of food products safely, and diversify into manufacturing to secure more supermarket and restaurant contracts.

Rosie McArtney says: “This is a very exciting time for us. We are extremely proud to have been awarded such a fantastic contract and hope that, now we have the equipment needed for full food manufacture, this is just the start of what’s to come!”

Following a successful introduction by the Food & Drink Forum, McArtney’s is also enrolling on NTI approved food safety and New Food Product Development courses.

Mike Dixon of Nottingham Trent University said: “We originally carried out microbiological analysis and shelf life testing of McArtney’s roulades via the Food and Drink Centre for Knowledge Exchange. We mentioned the availability of the technical grant and are really pleased that they have been successful with their application.”
