Nottingham joinery business grows with technology grant
27/07/2008
Specialist joinery manufacturer and building contractor, Bobbersmill based John Cawley Ltd has invested in the latest technology to increase quality and productivity.
Thanks to a match funded grant from East Midlands New Technology Initiative (NTI), John Cawley Ltd has a new sanding bench, which reduces airborne dust, a computerised woodworking machine shop and server, providing secure computer access to all key staff.
Managing director, Nick Greene, says: “The specialist sanding bench has increased quality and productivity as work can pass more quickly through the production process.
“The computerisation has enabled all key staff access to communicate efficiently and with speed. Our reporting and quality control procedures have been improved and a more efficient IT system has improved team effectiveness. With the NTI’s help we can now compete for, and win, a greater range of contracts, whilst ensuring our reputation for quality workmanship and service continues.”
Established in 1928, family-owned John Cawley Ltd provides a full design, manufacturing and site installation service and counts British Waterways, NatWest Bank PLC and Notts County Council among its clients.
As well as purchasing new equipment through the NTI’s Construction Network, John Cawley Ltd has also enrolled five members of staff on a supervisory course at the Nottingham University Business Centre, through the NTI. Nick adds: “The results are extremely positive as we move the business forward. We have also commissioned an additional day’s training, in order to review and analyse the changes.”
