Food & Drink Network

The industry is facing increasing competition in today’s global market.  In addition, consumer attitudes and trends towards wellbeing are driving the revolution in new product development, Innovation will play an increased role in achieving a competitive edge.

The Network will aim to offer support in the following key areas:

  • the development of premium/niche market products
  • improvement of existing products to meet new consumer trends
  • innovation in packaging
  • chemical/microbiological analysis , e.g. shelf life enhancement.
  • Improving skill levels
  • development of Lean Manufacturing skills and techniques for employers e.g. fast changeover techniques, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) improvement, waste and waste elimination and cost reduction, total productive maintenance
  • development of technical and engineering based skills in process and packaging automation e.g. systems control, checkweigher and metal detection, filling and depositing, modified atmosphere packaging technologies and associated automation.
  • Innovations in hygiene and cleaning technology associated with automated production processes

    Flavometrix Limited was formed in 2004 by Professor Andy Taylor and is based at the Department of Food Science at The University of Nottingham’s Sutton Bonington Campus. The company uses high-tech equipment and techniques to carry out contract research and development for the food and pharmaceutical industries
