NTI Construction Network project leader wins award
03/11/2008
Professor Roy Morledge, leader of the East Midlands New Technology Initiative’s (NTI) Construction Network has been named ‘Achiever of the Year’ for his inspirational work in helping small and medium sized businesses to invest in IT and training.
The award was presented by the East Midlands Centre for Constructing the Built Environment in recognition of an outstanding performance or influence by an individual who is truly inspirational in the opinion of the sector peer group.
Roy is Associate Dean at Nottingham Trent University’s School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment. He is passionate about raising skills within the East Midlands’ building industry to give small and medium sized businesses and their employees the ability to grow and embrace new opportunities.
Through his work with the East Midlands NTI he has encouraged hundreds of local businesses to reflect on their business plans, identify areas of growth and how to utilise the education available within the region’s colleges and universities. The East Midlands NTI offers businesses match funded grants of up to £10,000 to spend on capital equipment, linked to enrolling employees on NTI approved courses.
Roy said: “I was delighted to receive such an award from my peers. My University is well-known for the employability of its graduates and NTI has been a great opportunity to forge closer links between the Region’s excellent colleges and universities as well as supporting SMEs. New courses have resulted from these links enabling progression from further to higher education and strengthening the capability of the East Midlands workforce. SMEs have been able to invest in new technology and training. It’s been a real win-win and I’ve been privileged to be able to be part of it.”
Hilary Whaley, NTI’s executive director said: “Roy is a tremendous character who brings his enthusiasm and in-depth understanding of both business and education to the NTI. We are tremendously proud of what he has achieved and delighted that it has been recognised in this way.”
