‘Skills Select'– a one stop shop for employers
01 Oct 2007
Are you a Construction, Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Motor Vehicle Repair, or Engineering company looking to recruit new talent? Then look no further, Castle College Nottingham is here to help.
Skills Select is based at Castle College’s brand new Construction and Technology Centre on London Road. The scheme offers local Construction employers a one stop shop to recruit part and fully qualified trainees with skills and qualifications tailored to the business. Candidates can be selected on the basis of their suitability for a particular company and some trainees already have some prior experience.
The only condition is that, once employed, you allow the trainee to continue their studies towards achieving an apprenticeship and/or a nationally recognised qualification.
Apprenticeships allow young people to learn and earn at the same time, providing employers with an employee who is suitably qualified with the potential for increasing the productivity of their business. The scheme will be promoted to learners on courses at the college in the trade areas mentioned above. The potential to progress into guaranteed employment will be used as an incentive to drive up their skills and expectations. Unemployed learners will be provided with a potential route into employment and all the support they need to further their career in the industry of their choice.
For employers, the scheme is ideal – it takes the risk out of recruitment in a number of ways; you will only be forwarded details of candidates who have demonstrated good attendance, performance, commitment and motivation, and most importantly, who are suitable for your company. They will already be qualified or part-qualified, and also have experience of interview techniques and mock interviews as part of their tutorial programme.
The College has appointed a number of Apprentice Support Officers (ASO) who will support employers during, the recruitment process, and afterwards for the duration of their trainee’s programme of study. Also included as part of Skills Select is a training needs analysis, training advice, on site if required, as well as trainee support – all for free.
As an employer you also have the option to ‘try before you buy’, to ensure that you are only placed with the most suitable candidates.
