Wallace and Gromit Advice for Leicester
The photographer behind the Oscar winning Wallace and Gromit films is to share his trade secrets with students and local businesses.
Dave Alex Riddett, of Aardman Animations was director of photography on The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and Creature Comforts, and Co-director on the latest blockbuster, Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Chicken Run.
Dave Alex, who comes from Market Harborough, will be at De Montfort University, Leicester on Wednesday March 29th. He will spend the morning talking to students in the Faculty of Art and Design, before attending an afternoon seminar on film editing, animation, special effects and broadcasting, for local businesses.
Other speakers are from Adobe, Sony Broadcasting, Brainstorm Graphics (who create the Election Special virtual studios) and local production company Channel 2020.
The half day seminar at the Clephan Building, which is free and open to digital media businesses, is part of the East Midlands New Technology Initiative (NTI) Creative Industries Centre for Knowledge Exchange - a partnership between De Montfort University and the University of Derby.
East Midlands NTI is an initiative backed by leading universities and colleges, to help small businesses invest in state of the art technology. Businesses can apply for match-funded grants to invest in capital equipment and enroll staff on NTI approved courses to gain advanced technology skills.
Project Manager David Wortley said: “Having an Oscar winning cinematography and internationally acclaimed expert in film animation and stop motion photography come to speak to us is very exciting. Events like this are unique and a great example of NTI’s ability to make things happen.
“Students and businesses involved in digital media will be inspired by the success of an ex-university graduate from the East Midlands. It illustrates that the region is capable of producing leading creative talent for the film and digital media industries, and that this can be an important strategy for generating social and economic wealth and retaining creative graduates in the region.”
There will be limited places available at the event so pre-booking with David Wortley at dwortley@dmu.ac.uk will be essential.
