NTI Members Collaborate
26/09/2007
Equipment bought with East Midlands NTI grants is giving students across the region a head start in industry says Chesterfield’s Directorate of Art and Design.
Chesterfield’s Art and Technology department is working in close collaboration with Nottingham Trent University and other NTI members to give East Midlands’ students access to state of the art technology, increasing their employability and skills.
As a result, Nottingham Trent University is piloting the use of wireless technology in design so students can film on location, feed footage into laptops and stream images live to university and college mixing desks. Chesterfield is now able to tap into that experience, invest in their own wireless equipment and link into mixing desks and editing facilities.
Meanwhile, Chesterfield College invested in a portable editing suite, which is available for use by other colleges, universities, students and small businesses.
Students on the newly formed Foundation Degrees have already been able to take advantage of the new technology, and take it into their industry work placements.
Jeremy Asquith, of Chesterfield College, says their involvement with the NTI has had far reaching benefits: “Colleges and universities are not in competition with each other. We all want our students to experience the highest quality, and most practical inspirational training. Representatives from the NTI Network colleges and universities quickly realised the amazing potential of sharing information, ideas, equipment and future plans. We now meet and learn from each other.
“The NTI funding has been vital in helping universities and colleges provide state of the art equipment that is also available for use by small and medium sized businesses. Many in this industry are sole traders who could not possibly afford up to £40,000 to try and access new technology. It has been a massive support to us.”
