Cultural and Creative Arts Tasters

The University of Derby will be running a number of 'taster courses' during May 2008. The courses will be focussing on digital photography and high definition video workflow. Sessions are free of charge to 16-24 years old looking for new career directions.
Digital Photography Taster
This two- day course will demonstrate how to shoot professional quality digital photographs and prepare for a variety of media outputs.
Day One- 12th May 2008
Digital Photography
Pre-requisite: Level 3 & 4 Learners
Places: 8
The first taster day will offer you the opportunity to shoot and explore different workflows including Adobe Bridge, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom.
Day Two- 13th May 2008
Photoshop Tips and Tricks for Photographers
Pre-requisite: Level 3 & 4 Learners
Places: 8
The second taster day will introduce you to releasing the potential of Digital Photography. The techniques used to enhance, correct, select and manipulate images will be demonstrated. Topics covered will include how and when to use sharpening, quick and accurate colour correction, advanced tonal adjustments and preparing work for web and print.
HD Video Workflow Taster
This two- day course will offer demonstrate how to shoot, edit and follow a High Definition production workflow
Day One- Thursday 22nd May 2008
HD Camera Skills
Pre-requisite: Level 3 & 4 Learners
Places: 8
The first taster day will show you how to set-up and shoot with a high-definition digital video camera. The course will demonstrate how to operate a professional camera at a professional standard. You will learn the industry requirements and techniques of shooting in High Definition. The day will highlight how to use a camera with correct framing, focus, white balance, exposure and how to shoot for the edit.
Day Two- Friday 23rd May 2008
Introduction to Final Cut Pro 6
Pre-requisite: Level 3 & 4 Learners
Places: 8
The second taster day will demonstrate how to edit professional-quality video with Final Cut Pro. The day will demonstrate how to work with HD footage and produce professional quality content for a variety of media.
The courses will be delivered at the Apple Training Centre, University of Derby, Markeaton Street, Derby DE22 3AW. Ideally candidates will already be educated to NVQ3 or equivalent level.
